The new Polestar 3 made its first public unveiling at South OC Cars and Coffee. The 3 is a high-performance battery electric mid-size luxury crossover SUV to be produced by Swedish automobile manufacturer Volvo Cars and sold under the Polestar brand.

The Polestar 3 is the third entry in Polestar’s slowly expanding lineup and the brand’s first SUV model. The 3 will also be the first Polestar built in America at Volvo’s new plant in South Carolina.

The base 3 makes 489 hp and Performance model makes 517 hp. The powertrain is rear-biased even though all-wheel drive is standard. Polestar claims the Performance 3 will hit 60 mph, from zero, in just 4.6 seconds. Every 3 will come with an adaptive suspension system with active dampers, but the Performance package includes a sport-tuned version of the suspension.

All Polestar 3 come with a 107-kWh battery pack that can charge at up to 250 kW on DC fast charging. This is fast enough to get the battery from 10 to 80 percent in about 30 minutes. Once charged up to full, the standard model deliver about 300 miles of driving range, while the more powerful Performance model is slightly lower at 270 miles per charge.
