- Just 799 SF90 XX Stradale and 599 SF90 XX Spider will be built
- The SF90 XX Stradale and Spider are the first road legal XX cars
Ferrari has just taken the covers off on a more extreme versions of its already very extreme SF90 Stradale and SF90 Spider. The new cars carry the XX designation applies to experimental Ferraris offered to its VVIP customers.
Ferrari XX cars are designed for track use only. The SF90 XX Stradale and Spider are the first road legal XX cars. A total of 799 examples of the coupe will be built and 599 examples of the convertible, and both body styles are already sold out. I imagine the very best VVIP customers got one of each.
The SF90 XX features new front fascias, vented fenders, light-strip taillights, and a big fixed rear wings. Interestingly, this is the first fixed wing Ferrari road car since the Ferrari F50 from the 1990s.
The plug-in hybrid powertrain from the normal SF90 remains, with a slight bump in horsepower from 986 to 1,016 hp. The power unit consists of a twin-turbocharged 4.0-liter V-8, an 8-speed dual-clutch transmission, and three electric motors.
All that power is good enough to send the car from 0 – 100 km/h in 2.3 seconds, 0 – 200 km/h in 6.5 seconds and a top speed of 320 km/h.
The SF90 XX Stradale’s soundtrack was redesigned to become the ultimate encapsulation of the car’s racing soul. To produce an even fuller, richer sound and celebrate the harmonics right across the V8’s rev range, the hot tube system was optimized. This transmits the combustion pulsations into the cabin, highlighting the higher frequencies to reveal the sweet sound of the Ferrari V8.
The tube from the intake plenum has been redesigned and repositioned closer to the cabin’s bulkhead so that occupants are treated to even edgier, more raucous harmonics as the engine takes in greater quantities of air to deliver the desired torque. The resonator is now nearer the engine to create a richer harmony and increase intensity.
Like the SF90 Stradale, the SF90 XX Stradale has three electric motors, one located between the ICE and the gearbox and two on the front axle. They deliver a maximum of 230 hp. A high performance lithium-ion battery powers the three motors for up to 25km in full-electric mode. When the ICE is off, the front motors give the car a maximum speed of 135 km/h.
Pricing is kinda moot since all the cars are sold out, but it starts at $844,000 for the coupe and $932,000 for the convertible. Those figures are roughly double those of the regular SF90 versions.
